Zero-Emission Steam Power for Long-Haul Freight
The World’s First Zero-Emission, Self-Charging Hybrid Steam Engine Platform
BrixRae has developed a patent-pending hybrid electric-steam engine platform for Class 8 trucks. It combines a zero-emission steam engine, bidirectional electric motor-gnerator, and onboard batter support - without dependence on public charging stations
Our powerful compound steam engine provides the truck’s primary propulsion without combustion or direct engine emissions. An onboard battery system, energy recovery technologies and a highly efficient diesel APU work together to support long-haul operation while dramatically reducing diesel consumption.
The BrixRae Solution
The BrixRae platform modernizes proven steam-engine principles using advanced materials, electronic controls, induction heating and onboard energy management.
Electricity produces high-temperature steam in the induction steam generator. That steam drives a powerful closed-loop compound engine, which supplies the truck’s primary mechanical propulsion and high continuous torque.
A permanent magnetic motor generator can provide supplemental electric power during selected driving conditions or reverse direction to recover energy and return electricity to the batteries.
The result is a practical hybrid powertrain designed specifically for the demands of long-haul trucking.

The Challenge
Long-Haul Trucking Needs a More Practical Alternative
Diesel trucks are expensive to fuel and maintain. Fully electric trucks require large batteries, lengthy charging stops and charging infrastructure that does not yet exist across most long-haul routes.
Fleet operators need a solution that reduces fuel costs and emissions without requiring them to replace their trucks, sacrifice range or wait for a nationwide charging network.
BrixRae was designed to meet that need.
